First on the travel list was to stop at the Cenovus dock for fuel. They did just that taking 3.5 hours out of their day. After Fueling, up river to CN, arriving at the dock at 00:51. For the next 41.7 hours, yes, 41.7 hours they were at the dock, loading, waiting, loading. They finished the load and departed May 20 at 18:35. Out of Duluth they sailed at 19:40, topping off this visit at 48.8 hours. To date, their longest load of the season, at any dock.

The AMERICAN CENTURY was built as the Columbia Star in 1981 by the Bay Shipbuilding Company of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. She measures 1000 feet in length, 105 feet in width, and 56 feet in depth. She is powered by four 3,500hp 20-cylinder General Motors diesel engines which give her a top speed of 14 knots, or about 16mph. She is also equipped with 1,500hp bow and stern thrusters to aid her maneuverability in port. The AMERICAN CENTURY was bought, along with five other Oglebay Norton ships, in 2006 by the American Steamship Company for $120 million. Originally named in honor of the brig Columbia, the first vessel to move iron ore through the Soo Locks in 1855, she made her maiden voyage from Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin to Silver Bay, Minnesota in May of 1981 to load iron ore pellets. She carried a record cargo of 70,903 tons of Western coal through the Soo Locks in 1997. Only hauling iron ore pellets or western coal, she is one of thirteen 1000-foot vessels that currently operate on the Great Lakes.
