Black Star Network sent reporter Logan Johns to the National Museum of African American History and Culture to verify a viral claim that the photograph of Emmett Tills battered face had been removed from the solemn casket exhibit. Johns confirmed that the exhibit remains unchanged, and museum employees also said no major changes had been made.

Roland Martin made clear that the correction does not erase the larger threat. He said Donald Trump still cannot be trusted as a steward of history and warned that the administrations broader pressure on museums and historical interpretation remains real.

Congressman Jonathan Jackson called efforts to defile history ungodly and unholy, said the Smithsonian is sacred ground, and warned against erasing African American history. The RMU panel added that even though the viral claim was false, the fear behind it was believable because Black history is already under pressure in Trumps America.
