Spider-Man: Brand New Day is right around the corner and this is a great way to have Tom Holland's Spider-Man journey fresh in our heads when that comes out. Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) follows Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Still grieving the loss of Tony Stark, Peter tries to take a break from being Spider-Man by joining his classmates on a summer trip through Europe. Peter’s plan is simple: enjoy the trip, spend time with Ned, and finally tell MJ, played by Zendaya, how he feels. But his vacation is interrupted when Nick Fury recruits him to help stop a series of destructive creatures known as the Elementals. Peter is then introduced to Quentin Beck, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, a mysterious hero from another world who seems to understand the weight of responsibility Peter is carrying. Directed by Jon Watts, with music by Michael Giacchino, the film also stars Jacob Batalon as Ned, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Marisa Tomei as May Parker, Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson, and Angourie Rice as Betty Brant. As the story unfolds, Peter begins to trust Beck and even hands over EDITH, Tony Stark’s powerful defense system. But Beck is eventually revealed to be Mysterio, a former Stark employee using drones, holograms, and illusions to create fake disasters and make himself look like a hero. After being manipulated and nearly broken by Mysterio’s illusions, Peter has to stop trying to live up to Tony Stark’s image and start trusting his own instincts. The final battle in London pushes Peter to rely on his spider-sense, protect his friends, and become the hero on his own terms. But even after Mysterio is defeated, the mid-credit scene exposes Peter’s identity to the world, setting up a massive new problem for Spider-Man.
