⚙️ The Boeing 747 is a long-range wide-body airliner designed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the United States between 1968 and 2023. It was conceived in response to the demand of Pan Am for a jet 2+1⁄2 times the size of the 707, which had been introduced in October 1958, to reduce the airline's seat cost by 30%. The design team was led by Joe Sutter, who left the 737 development program in 1965 to design the 747. In April 1966, Pan Am ordered 25 Boeing 747-100 aircraft, and in late 1966, Pratt & Whitney agreed to develop the JT9D engine, a high-bypass turbofan. On September 30, 1968, the first 747 was rolled out of the custom-built Everett Plant, the world's largest building by volume. The 747's first flight took place on February 9, 1969, and the 747 was certified in December 1969. It entered service with Pan Am on January 22, 1970. The 747 was the first airplane called a "Jumbo Jet" as the first wide-body airliner. ⚙️ The Boeing 747-8 is the last member of the Boeing 747 family, a series of large, long-range wide-body airliners built by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. It is the largest model of the 747 and Boeing's largest aircraft overall. Following the introduction of the 747-400, Boeing explored larger 747 versions as potential competitors to the proposed double-deck Airbus A3XX, later developed as the Airbus A380. The stretched aircraft, initially called the 747 Advanced, was officially launched as the 747-8 on November 14, 2005, with the designation reflecting its technological ties to the 787 Dreamliner. At the time, Boeing forecast a market of 300 aircraft. ☝️🤓 Airlines are retiring the 747 because it's old. Except it isn't. Let me explain 747 is a Jumbo Jet from the late 1960s that is literally 57 years old, but age is not a problem as newest Varient the 747-8 was introduced in 2011 the main reason is that twinjets are just more efficent in commercial operating costs in any case The cargo industry never got that memo. ☝️🤓 and as commecrical economics are killing one of the greatest jets ever built the transportation industry will keep its legacy for at least another forty years #aviation #aviationgeek #aviationdaily #aviationlovers #aviationnews #aviationhistory #airplane #aircraft #airlines #airport #airforce #airforcestory #airlines #airlineindustry #airlinepilottraining #airline #aeroplane #aerospace #aerospaceindustry #aerial #aerobic #airbus #boeing #airbnb #airbusa320 #airbusa380 #airbusa321 #airbusa400m #airbustakeoff #airbusa330 #airbusbeluga #airbuslanding #boeing737 #boeing737 #boeing737800 #boeing747 #boeing777 #boeing787 #mcdonnell #mcdonnelldouglas #mcdonalds #history #seaplane #amphibiousaircraft #flyingboats #blender3d #blender #blenderanimation #blendercommunity #blenderworkflow #v22osprey #helicopter #helicoptertakeoff #rotorcraft #headupdisplay ⚙️⚙️⚙️⚙️⚙️⚙️⚙️⚙️⚙️⚙️⚙️⚙️⚙️⚙️
