Paul removes Faucis lawyer from committee room [S1BKRh2ByMi]

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), the chair of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, ordered one of Dr. Anthony Fauci's lawyers, David Schertler, to be removed from the committee room as he tried to defend his client during a hearing in which the infectious disease expert invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. Sen. Paul had warned Dr. Fauci of "repercussions" for refusing to answer the panel's questions on Wednesday. "The committee will have to consider after this hearing what appropriate action should be taken against you for the failure to testify after being directed to do so," he said. "It's against the law to obstruct an investigation of Congress. There will be repercussions to your refusal to testify today." Mr. Schertler then tried to defend Dr. Fauci but was cut off by Sen. Paul, who said he was not recognized to speak. "Another word and you're gone!" the chairman said. When the attorney tried to speak again, Sen. Paul ordered security to escort him from the room. #randpaul #fauci #covid #cspan
