UP Bulldozer Action: Jailed Samajwadi Leader Azam Khans Jauhar University Facing Demolition [KuaIWwblUIQ]
Jailed Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan’s dream project in Rampur, Jauhar University, is now at the centre of a massive showdown over alleged illegal construction. The Rampur Development Authority has ordered the demolition of 38 out of 40 buildings on the campus, calling over 82,000 square metres of construction unauthorised. Built as a private university to serve marginalised communities in western Uttar Pradesh, Jauhar University has been operating for nearly two decades, offering courses from humanities and social sciences to engineering and medicine. Supporters hail it as Azam Khan’s legacy and a vital education hub in a neglected region, while critics accuse the project of land encroachment, rule violations and political misuse of power. District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Dwivedi has rejected the university trust’s defence that the campus predates RDA jurisdiction, insisting that Zila Panchayat permission was mandatory even then. The trust now has a strict 15-day window to dismantle the unauthorised structures, failing which the state’s bulldozers are expected to move in. Amid this legal and political crossfire, thousands of enrolled students face uncertainty. The Rampur administration has coordinated with Guru Jambheshwar University to accommodate affected students, with Vice Chancellor Prof. Sachin Maheshwari assuring special arrangements and relaxation of admission deadlines so that academic careers are not derailed. #azamkhan #MohammadAliJauharUniversity #uttarpradesh Welcome to The Free Press Journal – Trusted News Since 1928 Delivering reliable, unbiased, and in-depth journalism for over 96 years.
