One Of These Charts Is The Real S&P 500 [jESBCLHKXEd]

Two of these charts were generated by code. One is the real S&P 500 from January 2000 to July 2026. All three finish at exactly the same +427%, so total return tells you nothing. Only the ride is different. The real one lost more than half its value: -51% from October 2007 to March 2009. It fell 44% in the dot-com crash, 19% in a single month in 2020 and 20% through 2022. The two fakes never fell more than 15% and 22% - because nothing forced them to. The tell was on screen from second one: the MAX DROP badge in the corner of every card. Real markets don't rise smoothly. A chart with no scars was drawn, not traded. Did you get it right? A, B or C - tell me in the comments. Data: monthly S&P 500 (monthly averages of daily closes, Shiller dataset), Jan 2000 - Jul 2026, price index only, dividends excluded. On daily closes the 2007-09 drawdown was -57% and the 2020 crash -34%. Charts A and C are synthetic random walks scaled to the same start and the same finish. Not financial advice. Past performance is not a guarantee of future returns. #sp500 #investing #stockmarket #indexfunds #personalfinance
