๐ด The 2027 COLA Could Be the Biggest in Years โ and Veterans Get It TWICE [FnxMOUbvcAV]
There's a lot of noise right now about veteran pay increases โ but here's the one that's almost certain. The forecast for the 2027 cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) just surged to 3.9%, tracking to be the biggest raise in years. And if you collect both VA disability and Social Security, that raise hits BOTH checks โ the same January. This is the plain-English math nobody is doing: how much bigger each check gets in 2027, why it surged, the timeline that locks it in, and the bills that could add even more. We follow one veteran, "Walt," and keep a running total. THE 2027 RAISE โ BY THE NUMBERS (forecast at 3.9%) โข VA disability (veteran alone): 100% ~$3,939 โ ~$4,092 (+$154/mo) ยท 90% โ ~$2,454 ยท 70% โ ~$1,879 ยท 50% โ ~$1,177. โข Social Security: the average check ~$2,081 โ ~$2,162 (+$81/mo, ~$972/year). โข The DOUBLE BUMP: collect both and your raise is roughly $235/month โ about $2,800 a year โ automatically, with NO offset. THE TIMELINE The COLA is set by CPI-W inflation for July, August, and September. The SSA announces the official number in October 2026; it takes effect January 2027. 3.9% is a forecast โ it can still move. THE RAISES ON TOP (not yet law) โข Concurrent Receipt / the Major Richard Star Act would end the offset for ~255,000 Chapter 61 medical retirees with combat-related disabilities rated 50%+ โ restoring an average ~$1,650/month. Real momentum, but NOT passed. Ask one question of every headline: is this the COLA (happening), or a bill (might)? WHY YOUR RATING MATTERS MORE IN A BIG COLA YEAR The COLA is a percentage โ so a correct, higher rating earns a much bigger dollar raise, every year, for life. A high-inflation year is the most expensive time to be under-rated. If this helped, LIKE and SUBSCRIBE โ every week we take one benefit or number you already earned and explain it plainly.
