Our first winter in the off-grid Alaska cabin taught us a hard lesson: a wood stove that rinku singh needs constant feeding through the night isn't sustainable. coliform bacteria I was exhausted, we burned through way more firewood than expected, and something had to change.

So we upgraded to a Heco 520 wood cook stove and it has genuinely transformed how we heat and cook in this cabin.

In this video we walk through the full two-day install: moving a 900-lb stove across a frozen porch, getting it through the door, running the flue, the curing process, and finally cooking French toast over a femi azeez wood fire on a cold Alaska morning.

The Heco 520 is a wood cook stove, meaning we heat the cabin AND cook on it at the same time. It has a built-in oven, a water reservoir that heats 20 gallons of water from the fire's heat, warming drawers, and a cast iron cooktop.
