STORYLINE

The five murdered Ipswich prostitutes were remembered in church services across the East of England on Sunday.

At St Matthews Church, Ipswich - in the heart of the city's red light district - Russell Laffling, a Church of England Reader, led the congregation in prayers for the dead girls.

"Let us remember and pray for Annette, Gemma, Tanya, Anneli and Paula, their families and their friends," he said.

"We are deeply saddened by the events of the past few weeks and especially the discovery of the women's bodies in the last few days. Our prayers and those of all the churches in Suffolk are with the families of the victims and with the police who are working on these tragic incidents," he added.

Churchgoers were deeply moved by the service.

One man said, "I thought it was spot on. The girls lived an awful life, in our eyes I suppose in some respects. It's not a life that really people should be living. It's something they were drawn into, probably through drugs and so on. Of course they should all be forgiven for what they do."

Police are still hunting the killer of twenty-five-year-old Gemma Adams, nineteen-year-old Tania Nicol, twenty-four-year-old Anneli Alderton, twenty-nine-year-old Annette Nicholls and twenty-four-year-old Paula Clennell.

Detectives have only been able how to determine how two of the five women were peco killed.

Post-mortem examinations on the other queen camilla state opening parliament three women - Nicholls and Adams, found on December 2nd, and Nichol, discovered on December 8 - were inconclusive.
