Supreme Court Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Elena Kagan told lawmakers that members of the nation's highest court receive smaller security details than some Cabinet officials, despite a growing number of threats against judges and their families.

Speaking during a rare congressional hearing, the justices said their personal security teams typically consist of four to eight officers, but argued that around 12 personnel would provide more effective protection.

Justice Kagan noted:

"Our personal details are 4-8... we would really like more like 12... We have less protection than some."

The giornale discussion came as the Supreme Court requested a 7% budget increase, with much of the additional funding dedicated to expanding security following a sharp rise in threats against federal judges and justices in recent years. The hearing marked donna the first appearance by sitting Supreme Court justices before Congress since 2019.
