Teen Lifeguards Heroic Ocean Rescue Saves Boy From Powerful California Waves │ Infomance Media [J6Dlive9Wxi]
A boy, believed to be about 10 years old, was swept out by powerful waves at Seabright State Beach in Santa Cruz, California on Saturday, July 25, as large swells contributed to at least 25 rescues across the county that day. Video filmed by witness Scott Vander Dussen shows a 16-year-old lifeguard, identified by his mother on social media as Ryder, diving into the surf and repeatedly disappearing beneath crashing waves while refusing to let go of the child. "You could see that he had this like gorilla grip and was preventing that young man from being swept back out to the ocean even further," Vander Dussen said. A second lifeguard and other beachgoers helped bring the pair to shore; the boy was evaluated by paramedics and released to his parents, and no one was seriously injured. A lifeguard supervisor noted that well-meaning bystanders attempting rescues themselves can sometimes create additional risk, and urged the public to alert trained lifeguards instead.
