This afternoon the St. Louis Cardinals (37-28) return to face the New York Mets (29-37) in the final game of this series at Citi Field, going for the three-game sweep. After two large offensive outbursts over the past two nights, the Cardinals have put themselves in a position to sweep their second series in a row. To say nothing of extending their six-game winning streak to seven. Taking the ball this afternoon for the Redbirds is RHP Hunter Dobbins (1-0, 2.77 ERA), who was acquired from Boston this offseason is Chaim Bloom's flurry of front office transactions. Today is Dobbins second start in 2026, with his first coming against Pittsburgh back in April. Though it is Dobbins in his most recent outing in long relief that caught significant attention, coming in for Kyle Leahy. In that appearance, Dobbins went 5.0 IP, and allowed no earned runs. The Cardinals are clearly interested in what greater role Hunter Dobbins might play moving forward in 2026, and his start today against the Mets is a major acid test to see what Dobbins can bring to the table. On the hill for the Mets today is RHP Christian Scott (2-0, 2.50 ERA), Scott in his eight starts so far this year has been very impressive. Over that stretch, Scott has allowed no more than 3 earned runs, only doing so once. Moreover, Scott has progressively given Carlos Mendoza greater length in his starts over time. Christian Scott may not be a front end of the rotation talent for the Mets, but he is not anyone to sleep on either. Can Hunter Dobbins show himself to be a legitimate option for the Redbirds in their rotation going forward for the remainder of this year?
