A key member of the Cubs teams in the 1980s, Davis was known for his toughness behind the plate, leadership with the pitching staff, and power for a catcher. From 1981–1988, he became a fan favorite at Wrigley Field, earning two All-Star selections (1984, 1986) and helping lead the Cubs to the 1984 NL East championship, the franchise’s first postseason appearance in nearly 40 years. His durability and defensive skill made him one of the National League’s most reliable catchers during that era. In recognition of his impact on the franchise, Davis was inducted into the Chicago Cubs Hall of Fame in 2026, cementing his legacy as one of the great catchers in team history. Mick Gillispie has covered the Chicago Cubs since 2007 and has been a fan of the team since the 1984 season. He has broadcasted spring training games or been heard on Cubs.com, MLB.com, 670 The Score, WGN, CSN-Chicago and Marquee Sports Network. He is an award winning play-by-play voice for the Tennessee Smokies Cubs Double-A Affiliate. He has also hosted many forums over the years at Cubs Convention including Down on The Farm
