The Real Issue With Nolan’s Odyssey Isn’t the Casting [9kFUiexNg45]
In this clip I explain why I’m less worried about Nolan’s Odyssey than most people online. While a lot of the conversation is focused on casting and skin color, I think the bigger issue is being overlooked. Nolan is reportedly working from Emily Wilson’s translation — a very modern and heavily feminized version of The Odyssey that tones down the violence and leans into different themes than traditional translations. What makes this less concerning for me is Nolan’s track record. He didn’t just adapt American Prometheus page-for-page for Oppenheimer. He restructured it and made big creative changes. He did the same with The Prestige.
