In December 2025 Trump filed a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the BBC. His complaint alleged the BBC's Panorama documentary harmed the value of his brand properties and businesses. On Tuesday a federal judge told him those words have consequences. Because he put his businesses at the center of the complaint the BBC now has the legal right to examine the finances of more than 400 companies held through a Trump family trust. His lawyers saw where this was headed. They tried to walk it back. They told the judge Trump's case had evolved and he was now only pursuing damage to his reputation not his businesses. The BBC's attorney demolished that in one sentence. You cannot separate the man and his reputation from his operation of his businesses. The judge agreed. You do not get to unring that bell. She also ruled that what Trump intended on January 6th and how his supporters understood his words that day remain directly at issue. Because he claims in his own complaint that he did nothing to foment the attack. Now he has to prove it. The BBC is also pushing for Trump to answer questions under oath. His team has been dragging their feet on scheduling a deposition. The trial is set for February 2027. Trump has also sued the Wall Street Journal. A judge called it groundless and threw it out. He sued CNN. A judge called it meritless and dismissed it. He sued the New York Times for $15 billion. That case is pending.
