Larkspur approaches the burial of cremated remains with the same care, reverence, and ecological responsibility that guides all of our work. Created as both an educational resource and a reflection of our values, this film gently explores what cremated remains are, why they matter to the health of the land, and how our process was developed to allow families to choose cremation without compromising the living ecosystems entrusted to our care. Rooted in ritual, science, and stewardship, this ceremony is one expression of Larkspur’s ongoing commitment to caring for both people and place with honesty, beauty, and intention. The majority of people come to Larkspur seeking natural burial for the body, but sometimes families reach out after choosing cremation—or after inheriting the cremated remains of a relative. Whatever brings people here, we created this ritual after realizing that many families who choose cremation never physically participate in the burial itself. The remains are often kept inside an urn, out of sight and out of reach. Here, people are invited to come close. To see and touch the cremated remains with their own hands. To care for them. To lay them gently into the earth, much like the lowering of a body in natural burial. Cremation can remove many of the physical rituals people once experienced around death. The meditation table gently returns some of that closeness—through touch, decoration, arrangement, and the quiet act of caring.
