What Dr. Anthony Fauci said publicly and thought privately is expected to be a focal point of a hearing Wednesday on Capitol Hill before the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee. The now 85-year-old former head of the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health is set to testify and the hearing is already generating some buzz, following the release of Fauci's "diary entries." It’s the latest layer in an investigation spanning more than five years into not only how COVID-19 started, but how and why its origins may have been hidden from the public. During an April 2020 Press Briefing at the White House, Dr. Fauci was asked to address suggestions or concerns that the virus was somehow manmade, and possibly came out of a laboratory in China. "The mutations that it took to get to the point where it is now is totally consistent with a jump of a species from an animal to a human," he said.
