Innate behavior is behavior that's genetically hardwired in an organism and can be performed in response to a cue without prior experience. Reflex actions, such as the knee-jerk reflex tested by doctors and the sucking reflex of human infants, are very simple innate behaviors. The following behaviors are examples of innate behaviors: Web making in spiders. Nest building in birds. Fighting among male stickleback fish. Cocoon spinning in insects such as moths. Swimming in dolphins and other aquatic species Behaviors that are closely controlled by genes with little or no environmental influence are called innate behaviors. These are behaviors that occur naturally in all members of a species whenever they are exposed to a certain stimulus.
