DOES THE NEW AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER MOVIE LIVE UP TO THE ORIGINAL SHOW?
Now that Ive had the opportunity to watch Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender twice after getting early access back in April, here are my full spoiler-filled thoughts on this beautiful movie that deserved way better.
In this review, I go over the incredible animation, where Aang and the rest of the original characters ended up, Dave Bautistas performance as Tagah, the new voice cast, some of the surprising power scaling, and why I really wanted more personal time with the characters.
I also talk about some of my favorite jokes and callbacks to the original show, including The Cabbage Guy, the foaming-at-the-mouth crowd gt vs rr guy, Aang sending Zuko a note, Sokkas dream story, and Toph unexpectedly having a massive crush on Tagah.
It genuinely sucks seeing how this movie was treated. It was leaked months before release, didnt receive the theatrical run it deserved, and had its release date moved into an incredibly crowded month. You can tell how much work the animators put into every frame, and I really hope enough people support it so we can eventually get the sequel this story desperately needs.
I gave the movie a high 3.5/5, leaning toward a low 4/5, and I didnt realize how badly I wanted more Avatar until watching 2026 social security cola projection it.
I also experimented with the editing format again for this video. Similar to my Christopher Nolan ranking, I left my normal background in instead of removing it. Removing the background takes way longer than people probably realize, so I wanted to test whether this style would save me time. It honestly didnt save fidelity layoffs as much time as I expected, and Im not sure I like it as much as the removed-background format, so I might return to that style after this video.
