Northern and southern China can feel like two different countries different food, different languages, and centuries of folklore about two separate peoples. So geneticists ran the obvious test and read northern and southern Han DNA side by side. What they found was a real north-to-south genetic gradient sitting on top of one of the lowest levels of overall differentiation ever measured in a population that size.

(2009) and the HUGO Pan-Asian SNP study, this documentary traces how seventeen centuries of migration, the great southward waves after the fall of the Jin, Tang, and Song, turned a divided land into one continuous people.
