BIG BEAR LAKE It has been an emotionally charged day at the Big Bear nest with Sandy's fludge & then fledge after Luna accidentally knocked her from the front porch. There is no further update tonight on Sandy other than she was seen flying to a near by tree and most likely took the rest of the afternoon to rest & gain her bearings. Jackie and Shadow have incredible vision and hearing & no doubt tracked the trajectory of Sandy when she fell and her subsequent flight to a tree. They will make the necessary adaptations in food deliveries to bring fish to Sandy where she is and also will continue to feed Luna on the nest. As I mentioned earlier, it is perfectly normal for a fledgling to take a few days to practice their flying skills and gain confidence before returning to the nest. In the meantime, Jackie arrived to the nest with a fish and she fed Luna and then spent quality time with him on the front porch. Check out the beautiful zooming of them by our cam ops! Shadow will also bring another fish ( there were six fish delivered today) and he feeds Luna as well and heads to the front porch. Luna is spending his first night alone and in charge of the nest! This is a big milestone for him! In addition, Luna is spending it on the high perch - not just the front porch or standing up in the nest. Luna is growing up fast. It is possible that Luna will fledge tomorrow given the current changes with Sandy fledging. Thank you for watching!
