CHICK LEAVES NEST BOWL 1ST TIME! SHADOW MOVES BABY GATE HELPING CHICK BACK IN NEST! FOBBVCAM 4.14.26 [XeUMvaByV93]

He took a short break leaving the chicks in charge on a warm and sunny afternoon. The chicks can be seen panting to cool off as eagles do not have sweat glands so they thermoregulate their body temperature by panting to cool off. We have seen Jackie & Shadow panting quite a few times this season! Chick 1 the oldest and biggest made it out of the nest cup for the first time - claiming the title of escapee! Chick 2 was feeling some dominance being in the nest cup by itself and proceeded to peck at chick 1 which causes C1 to climb further up & away. Papa Shadow returns to the nest vocal at the ravens we hear cawing in the distance. Chick 2 goes underneath Papa Shadow but C1 is still out of the nest bowl on the side. Shadow being known as the Branch Manager has the answer to this dilemma - he moves one of the sticks that was blocking the chick from scooting back to the nest bowl, essentially making a baby gate! Timestamp begins at 10:31. Then C1 scooted right back under Papa Shadow!! Great thinking Stickman! There has been a lot of confusion on which is chick 1 and which is chick 2 so I hope this helps. Chick 1 is the bigger chick & is more submissive at this time. This of course can change as they both continue to work out the pecking order on the nest. Chick 2 has been more aggressive lately. " Around 13:48p Chick 1 did get out of the nest bowl, but was able to get back into it with some help from Shadow."
