A complaint by a freelance filmmaker against Air India Express has drawn attention online after he alleged that his rented tripod worth Rs 50,000 was damaged during a flight from #Goa to #Mumbai. The passenger claimed he had informed the airline staff that the equipment was fragile before handing it over, but was later offered only Rs 5,000 as compensation. According to Sameer, the incident took place on July 20 during his journey on an Air India Express flight from Goa to Mumbai. In one of the videos, he was seen speaking to an airline ground staff member after collecting his baggage. During the conversation, the staff member informed him that, under the airline's policy, he would receive Rs 5,000 as compensation. Sameer pointed out that the tripod was rented equipment worth Rs 50,000 and said the amount offered did not come close to covering the loss. Explaining what happened before boarding the flight, Sameer said he had clearly informed the airline staff that the equipment needed special care. In the caption he wrote, "Before checking in my tripod, I specifically told the ground staff that it was fragile, had already been damaged once before, and that it was rental equipment worth Rs50,000. I requested them to handle it with extra care." Despite making that request, he claimed the equipment was badly damaged by the time he reached Mumbai. Describing what happened after landing Sameer wrote, "When I landed in Mumbai and collected my baggage, my tripod was completely destroyed and my monopod to. I immediately approached the customer service desk, expecting help and a fair resolution. Instead, I was made to wait for almost 3 hours, only to be met with rude, dismissive, and arrogant behavior. The only compensation I was offered was Rs 5,000 for equipment worth Rs 50,000." The filmmaker, Sameer Punjabi, shared his experience in an Instagram post, where he uploaded videos, photographs and screenshots to support his claims. Besides showing the damaged tripod and monopod, he also posted a clip that appeared to show baggage handlers throwing luggage after unloading it from the aircraft.
