Today the St. Louis Cardinals (34-28) go for the sweep against the Cincinnati Reds (31-32) in the finale of this three game series. Yesterday the Cards pulled out the win late, following a clutch 2-run homerun by Lars Nootbaar in the 8th, and a shaky - yet successful - save by Riley O'Brien. Starting for the Cardinals this afternoon is Michael McGreevy (3-5, 2.98 ERA), their de facto ace in all but name. In his previous start against the Texas Rangers, McGreevy went 6.0 IP and allowed 2 earned runs. Yet it was not McGreevy's performance that truly lead to his taking the loss, it was the lack of run support, as the Redbirds ran directly into Jacob deGrom. Going for the Reds today is the 24 year old RHP Rhett Lowder (3-3, 5.40 ERA), who was just activated off of the IL - missing just over one month due to shoulder issues. It remains to be seen how well Lowder will bounce back after a month on the IL, and if his woes in the 2026 season will persist. No doubt Terry Francona will manage Lowder's shoulder carefully in this first start back. Will Michael McGreevy get the run support he has lacked in his previous two starts?
