An Air Quality Alert remains in effect for Chicagoland through at least Thursday, as the ongoing heat wave is now automotive industry mixing with smoke from Canadian wildfires, creating unhealthy conditions. As of early Thursday morning, Chicago's Air Quality Index was at 182, which is in the unhealthy range. Further north, Waukegan was at 256, in the very unhealthy range, and Valparaiso, Indiana, karen hauer was at 323, in the hazardous range.
