At a special event held in Salzburg, Austria, the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger sat down with Dimensional’s Bryce Skaff to talk about the importance of having a vision, making a plan, and putting in the work to become successful. In the conversation, Schwarzenegger touches on his childhood in Austria and his journey from discovering an interest in bodybuilding at age 14 to becoming the youngest person ever to earn the Mr. Universe title, in 1967 at the age of 20. “When you’re chasing a vision and working toward a big goal, there is nothing more energizing than making progress,” he notes. “This is why I was there every morning in the gym working out. . . . To me, every rep took me closer to the goal.” Schwarzenegger also talks about his experiences as a Hollywood actor, from breaking into the industry to the lessons it has taught him over the years. Many of those lessons, he adds, helped him reinvent himself yet again as a politician in the early 2000s. Pointing out that his own life is about both victories and defeat, Schwarzenegger encourages people not to be afraid of coming up short sometimes. “The bottom line is, we can only learn from failure,” he says. Schwarzenegger has known Dimensional since he was introduced to firm Founder David Booth in the 1990s and went on to become a shareholder. Building on its presence in Central Europe, Dimensional hosted two days of events for financial professionals from both Austria and Germany in January.
