It is a time of change for Jackie & Shadow & their fledglings Sandy & Luna. Instead of feeding on the nest, both Jackie & Shadow adapt to the new locations that their fledglings are located. Shadow made two fish deliveries to Luna. The first one, Shadow flew in a circle around the Simba tree and then he landed just under where Luna was perched. Luna squeed and flapped his wings but did not make an attempt to claim the fish. Shadow either ate it or took it with him when he flew out. Shadow then landed on the nest with fish #2. It is a big one! Shadow waits on the nest for either Sandy or Luna to fly in and claim it but they do not. So Shadow begins to eat the fish. He does some Branch Management work moving a guard rail -then he takes the fish and flies to the Simba Tree for Luna again. Shadow is on a different branch - he ate the fish there since Luna did not come down to claim it. Luna did eat a fish on the nest prior to fledging so he is ok! It is a learning process for the young fledglings. They need to hone their flying and landing skills so they can claim food opportunities such as these. Learning to eat fish on a branch is another new challenge for Sandy & Luna that they will develop in the coming weeks. Jackie arrives to the nest with a fish head and she also waits for Sandy or Luna to claim it. Jackie eats some of it but then she takes it in her beak and flies to the ground where she sees Sandy on a rock close to the headless tree. Sandy immediately claims the fish, mantles and she eats it - with Jackie staying on the ground being watchful. Many thanks to FOBBV for their security cam 3 which allowed us to see via images closeups of Jackie & Sandy on the ground. Eagles do eat on the ground and in tree branches when not using a nest. This is normal behavior for them. Eating on the ground makes them more watchful for predators in the area but they can fly off if danger arises. Sandy stayed on the rock for awhile before flying off towards the left. Luna remains perched on the Simba tree canopy tonight as they experience the light of the Strawberry Moon shining down upon them. Jackie & Shadow are amazing raptors keeping both Sandy & Luna fed and continue the teaching lessons for their newly flighted fledglings! Let's see what adventures tomorrow will bring!
