Byron Allen, here at 18 years old (born Byron Allen Folks, April 22, 1961) is an American businessman, comedian, and film and television producer, best known as the founder of Allen Media Group (formerly Entertainment Studios). His media company spans television production, broadcasting, film, and digital media. Born in Detroit, Michigan, and later moving to Los Angeles, Byron Allen began his career in stand-up comedy at a young age. His early talent led to a breakthrough appearance on The Tonight Show, which opened the door to television opportunities. From 1979 to 1984, Allen co-hosted NBC’s hit series Real People, marking a major step in his transition from comedian to television personality and producer. In 1993, he founded Entertainment Studios, laying the foundation for what would become one of the most successful Black-owned media companies in the United States.
