Acting AG denies weaponization of Justice Department [amU1b3xbmAm]
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche on Tuesday denied the Justice Department was being weaponized to target President Trump's perceived political enemies, despite the president's repeated public calls for it to do so. "We have thousands of ongoing investigations and prosecutions going on in this country right now," he told reporters. "And it is true that some of them involve men, women and entities that the president in the past has had issues with and believe should be investigated. That is his right, and indeed, it is his duty to do that." It was the deputy attorney general's first press conference since taking over the department from former Attorney General Pam Bondi, whom the president fired last week after growing frustrated with her failure to successfully prosecute his political foes. "I do not view this as pressure," Mr. Blanche said. "I do not view this as something that's going to keep me up at night, except to make sure we're investigating every case we have to the fullest extent of the law." The acting AG, who previously served as the president's personal attorney, accused the media of a double standard, noting that the Justice Department secured criminal indictments against President Trump during the Biden administration.
