Using The Whole Salmon | Feeding Our Family Through Alaskas Winter Carburant [KASb4P6BOHI]

Our first fish camp of the season is behind us, and now it's time to put up more than 30 salmon for the months ahead. Living a subsistence lifestyle means making deandre ayton the most of every fish we harvest. Heads and spines become nourishing stock, fillets are dried, smoked, and canned, bellies are turned into man city vs brentford f.c. stats sweet and salty jerky, and even the tails are saved and dried for dog food.

We spent the day building our winter food stores and preserving salmon in several traditional ways. We also share one of our favoriteand increasingly uncommonmethods of putting fish away for the long Alaska winter: dry fish. Simple, shelf-stable, and deeply rooted in Alaska's history, dry fish remains one of the most practical ways we know to preserve a harvest. Only sun, smoke and wind required.
