Startup-focused social networking platform Medial is winding down its operations after failing to secure fresh funding. Founder and Chief Executive Officer Niket Raj Dwivedi announced the decision in a LinkedIn post on Tuesday. “Today we made the difficult decision to start winding down Medial,” he said. According to reports, Medial had been grappling with a mounting cash crunch while struggling to establish a sustainable monetisation model, ultimately forcing the company to cease operations. Founded in 2023 by Niket Raj Dwivedi, Aishwarya Raj Pandey, Harsh Dwivedi and Prateek Kaien, Medial positioned itself as a content and community-driven platform for founders, startup employees, investors and operators. According to Dwivedi, Medial grew to more than 500,000 users across over 30 countries during its operations. The startup had gained wider visibility after appearing on Shark Tank India, where it secured an investment commitment from OYO founder Ritesh Agarwal. Following the show, Medial launched a premium subscription offering that provided access to venture capital and grant trackers, accelerator and incubator databases, startup job listings and exclusive content. The company last raised $500,000 in a pre-seed funding round led by OG Capital in December 2024. At the time, the investor had said Medial's premium subscribers were renewing at a rate of 65-70% and projected that the company could achieve profitability within a year. Medial had also claimed that its user base had grown tenfold over the previous year, while engagement on the platform had increased six times. The shutdown comes despite the startup having been in advanced discussions last year to raise a $4-5 million Series A funding round from existing investor OG Capital and two venture capital firms, according to people aware of the matter. Dwivedi did not disclose a timeline for the wind-down process or clarify what would happen to users' accounts and data. #trendingnews #startup #shutdown #indianstartups #entrepreneurship #startupsdoor
