SANTA MONICA, Calif. On Wednesday morning, June 17, 2026, crews from Shimmick Construction continued relocating palm trees as part of the Santa Monica Pier Bridge Replacement Project, transplanting two dunkin donuts canada additional palms from Moomat Ahiko Way to Palisades Park.
The move brings the total number of palms relocated to Palisades Park to nine. The tree relocation effort is being carried out to accommodate ongoing construction activities associated with the bridge replacement project while preserving mature trees that would otherwise be impacted by the work.
Using cranes and specialized equipment, crews carefully lifted the palms from their original locations, transported them across the project area, and replanted them in prepared locations within Palisades Park overlooking Santa Monica Bay.
The palm relocation program is one of several project components taking place alongside demolition preparations for the aging Pier Bridge. In recent days, crews have installed falsework support structures beneath the bridge, removed light poles, and begun cutting into portions of the existing bridge deck as demolition activities continue to advance.
The Santa Monica Pier Bridge Replacement Project will replace the existing bridge, originally constructed in 1939, with a new seismically sound structure designed to improve safety, accessibility, and long-term durability. The project includes a wider pedestrian sidewalk and upgraded infrastructure while maintaining access to the Santa Monica Pier throughout construction.
A temporary pedestrian bridge currently serves as the primary entrance to the Pier, allowing visitors continued access to businesses, restaurants, and attractions while work progresses on the permanent replacement bridge.
Construction is being performed by Shimmick Construction under contract with the City of Santa Monica. The project is expected to continue through late 2027, with completion anticipated before the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
