On Friday, the subtropical ridge that has spent this week driving heat indices to 118 degrees across eastern Oklahoma is forecast to migrate west and set up over the Four Corners, arriving directly above all three. The Weather Prediction Center's own extended discussion says the ridge will deliver "spotty record highs and more widespread record overnight lows" — and it is that second number, the one nobody reads, that determines whether a fire crew has any hours at all in which to build line.
