Chris Cuomo opened the show with a firestorm of controversy set off by President Trump’s Truth Social account, which reposted a video on election fraud. The video included an AI-generated clip depicting Barack & Michelle Obama as monkeys, which many critics said referenced a centuries-old racist trope. The White House initially defended the video and the clip, saying it was part of an internet meme depicting various prominent Democrats as characters from The Lion King and Trump as the lion. However, after 12 hours of widespread criticism from prominent Republicans, including the lone African-American GOP U.S. Senator, Tim Scott, who called the video racist, the White House blamed a staffer for the post and took down the video. Chris Cuomo said the video was reprehensible and called out the backlash on the Right which he said should also have criticized the election fraud claims that have been repeatedly debunked. Later in the show, NewsNation’s newest primetime host Katie Pavlich got into a heated debate with Chris Cuomo.
