President Trump said Sunday night he is indifferent to whether Iran returns to the negotiating table after marathon talks in Islamabad failed to produce a breakthrough. “I think Iran is in very bad shape. I think they’re very desperate. We had a meeting that lasted 21 hours. We understand the situation better than anybody, and Iran’s in very bad shape,” he told reporters at Joint Base Andrews. “I don’t care if they come back or not. If they don’t come back, I’m fine.” The president said the U.S. would begin a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, citing Iran’s refusal to allow free navigation through the critical oil transit route. “They broke their promise,” he said. “Their promise was that they were going to open the Hormuz Strait.
