In the first set, Tatsunori Otsuka scored Japan's first point, and Yuto Kai followed with a spike and a block to make it 5-2. Keigo Nishimoto further extended the lead with a block. A spiking error by Belgium and a powerful spike by Kai made it 17-10. After that, Belgium's varied serves disrupted Japan's serve reception, and the gap gradually narrowed, but at set point, relief server Ran Takahashi scored a service ace to win the first set 25-20.

In the second set, Nishimoto's quick attacks and Belgium's spikes went out, making the score 8-4, prompting Belgium to call a timeout.
