As severe weather continues to affect parts of South Africa, humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers is calling on government to prioritise the provision of safer and more resilient housing for vulnerable communities. The organisation has been assisting affected residents across several provinces, providing emergency relief ranging from food and blankets to shelter and other essential supplies. However, it says recurring weather-related disasters continue to expose deeper challenges around housing, infrastructure and disaster preparedness. With winter conditions expected to persist in many parts of the country, concerns are growing about the safety of residents living in informal settlements and flood-prone areas.
