The government has reduced income tax rates for four key income slabs and also decided to completely abolish the surcharge on salaried employees, following directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Addressing the National Assembly, the finance minister said the government is committed to easing the financial burden on working individuals and providing meaningful relief amid economic challenges. He described the reforms as part of broader efforts to support the middle and upper-middle-income groups. Under the new proposals, salaried individuals earning between Rs2.2 million and Rs3.2 million annually will see their tax rate reduced from 23% to 20%. For those earning Rs3.2 million to Rs4.1 million, the tax rate has been cut from 30% to 25%. Similarly, individuals earning Rs4.1 million to Rs5.6 million will now pay a reduced tax rate of 29%, down from 35%. For the Rs5.6 million to Rs7 million income slab, the tax rate has been lowered from 35% to 32%. In a major relief step, the government has also abolished the surcharge on the salaried class, which had previously been reduced from 10% to 9% last year.
