Fox News spent nine hours and ten minutes this week relitigating Anthony Fauci's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, following the release of his private diary entries by Senator Rand Paul and Fauci's subsequent Senate testimony, where he invoked the Fifth Amendment. Nearly three hours of that was the network carrying the hearing live on air. In the same four-day window, from July 27 through July 30, Fox devoted less than one minute of combined coverage to four ongoing health care stories. The United States has recorded more measles cases in the past eighteen months than in the previous twenty-five years combined, while vaccination rates decline across the country and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has halted funding for vaccine hesitancy research. Fox spent under ten seconds on it, and the only mention came during a Fauci segment in which Jesse Watters used rising measles cases to blame the pandemic response for children going unvaccinated. A cyclospora outbreak has spread to forty-five states and sickened thousands, with former CDC employees saying the federal response has been hampered by personnel cuts at the agency. Fox gave it under thirty seconds, and both mentions were jokes on Gutfeld. The fastest-spreading Ebola outbreak on record is currently killing people in Congo at a faster rate than the 2014 to 2016 outbreak that produced twenty-eight thousand cases. There is no approved treatment or vaccine. Fox spent under twenty seconds on it. And the Trump administration is ending the Medicare Part D subsidy program a year earlier than expected. The program keeps prescription premiums low for an estimated twenty-three million beneficiaries, who could pay nearly fifty percent more for drug coverage without it. Fox did not mention it at all.
