Just for retirees?! 10-Day Danube River Cruise Review (ft. Viking) [Xqb7lexS1eV]
Last summer we were invited by Viking to experience their whole-Chinese crew tour of the Danube river. I have to admit I had a lot of prejudices going in to this. It just wasn’t the sort of thing we would choose for ourselves. Ella and I are used to backpacking, and shy away from the lux life. I didn’t like the idea of people waiting on me, going out to cities in tour groups, or the lazy aspect of this kind of travel. So I was super surprised to find I enjoyed it. One of my favourite things is that we just made friends with all the waiters and bar staff. They were all our age and just enjoying what they do, which made it easy to connect. The tour groups were definitely not my cup of tea, but we quickly learned to dip out of them and go out rambling around the towns and cities by ourselves, which was fantastic. And ultimately, I discovered that the buffet all you can eat food and lack of trains/planes/buses was not lazy, it was super convenient. It just meant we could save our energy to use for the things we really enjoyed. Waking up in a new place every day is such a novel experience and one I look back on fondly now. Very happy we got to experience this. Thanks Viking!
