What a wonderful early gift for black history month! This past Thursday, the first details of the cinematic adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling YA fantasy novel Children of Blood and Bone were revealed. The film, being released by Paramount Pictures, is set to begin production in a couple of weeks, and with this news came the announcement of the official cast. I have two words for you: Melanin Overload! This might be one of the most stacked collections of black talent I’ve seen since Black Panther. This is a movie that has the potential to be something special and one of the most important cinematic projects of the 2020s. Let’s talk more about it and get excited about one of the most anticipated movies in black popular culture. SIDE NOTE: I’m fully aware that there has already been some “passionate feedback” about some of the casting decisions. While I understand people’s feelings on the matter, that topic will NOT be discussed in this video. This is simply a video celebrating the fact that this talented woman of color is having her world and story brought to life on such a large scale and with such an incredible roster of black talent across the board. Especially since some of the casting choices were dream castings for Adeyemi herself. Opportunities like this don’t come every day, especially for a new IP made by a person of color.
