The H Lee White coming into Duluth with their usual vim an vigor!

Arriving Duluth for the first time this season May 28 at 18:04 ! This same time last year they had 3 visits under their belt. Arriving on a fuel run only! They came to Duluth fully loaded with Iron Ore Pellets from NorthShore Mining for Toledo OH. The H Lee pulled up to the fuel dock at 18:30. Spent only 2.7 hours "topping off the tank", departing Cenovus at 21:13.

The sailed under the Aerial Lift Bridge at 21:31 after being in Port for 3.4 hours. Pretty good guess on the time in Port by the Captain! (if you listed to the chatter on the video)

Lets take a quick jaunt back to Silver Bay and tell you what they accomplished there. They arrived at Silver bay May 28th as well, at 04:40 in the morning. This was also their first visit to NorthShore Mining. The White pulled into the dock at 5:05, stayed there loading until 14:22, 9.3 hours. They departed Silver Bay at 14:27 after being in Port only 9.8 hours! Sailing to Duluth to fuel chris pratt up before heading to the Lower Lakes.

The H. LEE WHITE was built in 1974 by the Bay Shipbuilding Company of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. She measures 704 feet in length, 78 feet in width, and 45 feet in depth. She is powered by motocicletta two 3,600hp 20-cylinder General Motors diesel engines. She is also equipped with 1,000hp bow and stern thrusters to aid her maneuverability in port. The H. LEE WHITE has 30 hatches on her deck which open into 6 cargo holds located below deck; each hatch covering measures 44 by 11 feet. She has a maximum carrying capacity of 35,400 tons. Above her deck is a 251 foot self-unloading cubs baseball boom which allows her to unload her own cargo at a rate of 6,000 per hour without the aid of shore side equipment. The H. LEE WHITE is owned by the American Steamship Company of Williamsville, New York, and shes operated under charter by Grand River Navigation of Traverse City, Michigan. The H. LEE WHITE is named in honor of former American Steamship Company chairman Harris Lee White. She was the third of ten ships constructed under the provisions of the Merchant Marine Act of 1970, which guaranteed government financing and tax benefits for US Shipping Companies to build new vessels. She is used in the general trades, transporting iron ore pellets, coal, grain, and limestone for American Steamship. With American Steamship being placed under new ownership in 2020, Rand Logistics, the BOLAND was chartered to Rands Grand River Navigation company for 5 years starting with the 2021 shipping season.
