Both teams come into this game on a clear high from their respective recent performances. On the mound for the Cardinals is Dustin May (3-6, 4.59 ERA), who appears to be in a turning point in his 2026 campaign. Namely in his previous two starts, one is where May took a no-hitter into the 8th inning on the road in Milwaukee. The other was against the Texas Rangers at home, where he went 5.2 IP and allowed three earned runs. With May a target of speculation for a possible mid-season trade, he is worth watching very closely tonight and going forward this year. Taking the ball for the Mets is Freddy Peralta (4-4, 3,63 ERA), who has been a generally solid member of the Mets rotation this year. In his previous start against the Mariners in Seattle, Peralta went 6.0 IP and allowed only a single earned run. What Peralta seems to have done best this year for Carlos Mendoza is eat innings, and mostly keep the Mets in games.
