Aroldis Chapman became baseball’s career leader in strikeouts as a reliever, overtaking a more than half a century old record. The 38-year-old left-hander threw his 1,364th strikeout in the Red Sox 5-2 win over the Angels, surpassing Hall of Famer Holy Wilhelm, whose 21-year career ended in 1972, five days shy of his 50th birthday. Chapman’s historic strikeout came on Denzer Guzman with a 98.6 mph fastball, slow for a pitcher knowing for tapping 105. Aroldis, in his 889th major league appearance over 17 seasons, earned his 383rd save, 10th all time. He has 17 saves in 19 chances in 2026, a year after winning American League Reliever of the Year honors with a 1.17 ERA.
