PM Surya Sarovar Yojana explained | Transforming water bodies into clean energy hubs [G5lHdCMjbKK]

India is unlocking the power of its water bodies to accelerate the clean energy transition. The Union Cabinet has approved the Pradhan Mantri Surya Sarovar Yojana, a landmark initiative to harness India's floating solar potential by developing 5,000 MW of Floating Solar Photovoltaic (FSPV) projects along with 10,000 MWh of Energy Storage Systems (ESS) over the next five years. The scheme aims to transform reservoirs, lakes, dams, and industrial ponds into clean energy hubs while improving energy security, conserving water, and reducing carbon emissions. Key highlights: * ₹5,070 crore Central Government financial support * Expected investment of approximately ₹28,500 crore * Scheme duration: Five years * Harnessing India's estimated 102 GW floating solar potential * Reduced water evaporation and improved solar panel efficiency through natural cooling * Estimated reduction of around 1 crore tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually * Creation of approximately 16,000–17,000 employment opportunities #ashwinivaishnaw #cabinetdecisions ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Subscribe to channel Ashwini Vaishnaw: Hit the 🔔 to stay updated! ► Facebook: ► Twitter: ► Instagram:
