The Senior Citizens League forecasts the 2027 COLA at 3.8%, which works out to roughly $79 a month on the average Social Security check. The 2027 Medicare Trustees Report projects the Part B premium going from $202.90 to $209.50. That is a $6.60 increase, about 8 cents of every raise dollar instead of last year's 32 cents. But there are three catches. One year ago the same Trustees Report projected this year's premium at $218.60, and independent forecasters currently project $216 to $219 for 2027. The real increase could run $13 to $16 a month. The premium comes out of your Social Security check before the deposit hits your bank. And at $209.50, Part B still costs $2,514 a year. Then there is what my 82-year-old dad Wallace knows. Dad is a Vietnam-era veteran. Dad does not pay $202.90 for Part B. Dad pays $17.90. Dad gets $185 of his Part B premium covered, which is the highest available in his county. The average veteran who goes through our process gets $145 covered. Some get more. Some get less. Benefits and costs vary by county and plan. Your VA benefits do not change. Part C plans are not allowed to change your VA health benefits in any way. And Page 11 of the 2026 Medicare and You handbook says about Medicare Part C plans, "some plans may have a $0 premium and may help pay all or part of your Part B premium." That is Medicare's own language. ⏱️ CHAPTERS: 0:00 Does Medicare take the $79 COLA in 2027? 0:45 What is the 2027 COLA forecast? 1:13 How much does Part B go up in 2027? 2:10 Catch 1: Can you trust the $6.60 projection? 3:07 Catch 2: What does Part B still cost every year? 3:46 Catch 3: What does Page 11 say about Part C? 5:30 How does Dad pay $17.90 instead of $202.90? 6:14 Dad's actual Medicare.gov account (the proof) 8:33 What does the average veteran get covered? 9:24 Why is 2027 a double raise year for disabled veterans? 10:41 Three veterans, three outcomes.
