A magnitude 4.7 hit at 7:46 p.m. local time on July thirty-first, three kilometers - under two miles - beneath the ground between Pozzuoli and Quarto. That is the strongest event recorded here since October 1983. Walls cracked, a rail line stopped, and the injury count climbed from four to ten to twenty-one over roughly six hours, two of them serious. Here is the part almost nobody reported. In the two weeks before this, Campi Flegrei had the quietest stretch of the entire crisis - twenty quakes, then ten, the largest a magnitude 1.5. The ground never stopped rising. It has been lifting 10 millimeters a month, give or take three, since early February, down from 30 a month after the February 2025 swarm. I.N.G.V. volcanologist Lucia Pappalardo said there is no signal of magma rising, and the alert level is still yellow - unchanged since December 2012.
