What would Russia’s invasion look like where you live? [w5KqCXnohAK]
What would Russia's invasion of Ukraine look like where you live? The maps above show roughly how much of different countries or states would be occupied if Russia had taken the same amount of land as it has in Ukraine. --- How did we do it? First, we needed to find out how much of Ukraine Russian forces currently occupy. The Institute for the Study of War & AIE's Critical Threats Project publish daily updates of the map of the war in Ukraine. The organisation provided us with an assessed area of 124,832.74km² which is about 21% of Ukraine's territory. A link to the interactive map is in our bio. We then chose three places that would give people different perspectives on the scale of the war. We chose the UK, California, and Australia. Using a website called freemaptools.com, we were able to draw shapes over maps of the places we had selected that would tell us what area they covered. The shapes are not exactly the same as the area of land in Ukraine but give you a close idea. Our design team then produced maps using Google Earth that highlighted the areas in red. --- (📸: AP, Google Earth) (Data: "Institute for the Study of War & AIE's Critical Threats Project" as at 23 August 2022) #shorts #ukraine #ukrainewar #russia #uk #unitedkingdom #california #usa #australia
