30 earthquakes hit near San Francisco Bay Area A swarm of more than 30 earthquakes struck the Bay Area Monday morning near San Ramon, east of San Francisco. The activity began around 6:30 a.m. and lasted about an hour, with the largest quake registering magnitude 4.2. The shaking eased before 8:30 a.m., and little additional activity was reported. Some residents felt tremors as the day began.
